Bosu Training Ball by Howard Berry –

Bosu Training Ball by Howard Berry -

The latest rave to hit fitness centers across America is the BOSU balance trainer. You may have seen it in the gym: a large blue rubber ball that’s been cut in half with a platform on the bottom.

This cross-training fitness invention has its origins in the field of medicine, balance, functional and sports specific training. It offers a unique way to work on balance, core strength and aerobic conditioning.

The BOSU Balance Trainer can be used on both sides ( the name is an acronym which stands for “Both Sides Up”). You’ll get different types of balance exercises depending which side of the BOSU is up, be it the rounded bouncy dome part or the flat 25 inch platform. You can use it ball-side-up to challenge lower body balance and stability or use the platform to target upper body strength. Working your balance in two different ways on both sides, now how creative is that?

Now let’s see what you can do with a BOSU trainer. You can step, walk, run, hop, jump and leap
on it. Or do some stretching. With the ball side up, you can stand, squat, sit or use it just like you would a step for aerobics; the difference is your body has to constantly shift and contract to stay aligned. This not only helps burn more calories, but enhances coordination and balance. Turn it over and you can use it as a bench (for strength training), push ups or just sitting on it to test your balance. While standing or kneeling on the dome, you can move the upper body lower, higher, to the sides or by reaching for and picking up cards from various locations on the floor, or by touching and/or relocating cones that have been placed in close proximity to the dome. It’s great for working your trunk too. Maintaining spinal alignment is important to low back health and sports performance.

Most of the U. S. Olympic teams and numerous professional athletes use BOSU conditioning and training as well. “I implement the BOSU trainer during our off-season program for core strength training and rehabilitation of ankle and knee problems” says Bennie Wylie, Assistant Strength Coach of the Dallas Cowboys. “It is a great piece of equipment and gives us an important extra dimension to our overall fitness program. Almost all of the players use the BOSU trainer in some fashion on a regular basis.”

Next time you see the BOSU in your gym, give it a try and see how it works. Don’t be discouraged the first few times if you find it difficult to balance or train. Over time you’ll be able to stand on the BOSU with your eyes closed and perform exercises fully utilizing your body and mind.

Enjoy the benefits!

5 Steps to Destroy Fear and Build Self Confidence

Recently while reading through “The Magic of Thinking Big”, I found these five little steps anyone could do to gain more confidence in their life and destroy fear. It was so powerful, and yet so simple!

We all face time that more confidence would make the difference between having what you want and not having it. It may show up for you as fear, or simple lack of action. Its that thing you know you should do but are stopped for some reason.

Here are 5 Steps and Practices that will work for you -

1. Action cures fear. Isolate your fear and then take constructive action. Inaction–doing nothing about a situation strengthens fear and destroys confidence. Pick one thing you are putting off or avoiding, where you know fear has a grip and take at least one action today.

2. Make a supreme effort to put only positive thoughts in your memory bank. Don’t let negative, self deprecatory thoughts grow into mental monsters. Simply refuse to recall unpleasant events or situations. Pick a positive experience from your life (search for it if you have to), one where you felt good. Stop and think about it, relive it in your mind, recall every detail.dwell in it.

3. Put people in proper perspective. Remember people are more alike, much more alike than they are different. Get a balanced view of the other fellow. He is just another human being. And develop an understanding attitude. Many people will bark but it’s a rare one who bites.

4. Practice doing what your conscience tells you is right. This prevents a poisonous guilt complex from developing. Doing what’s right is a very practical rule for success.

5. Make everything about you say, I’m confident really confident. Practice these little techniques in your day to day activities. Try them and see they make a difference for you.

a. Be a front seater – in church, school or next meeting

b. Make eye contact – look people in the eye.

c. Walk 24 percent faster – you may be surprised.

d. Speak up – make it a point to say something constructive or ask a question.

e. Smile big – it makes a difference.

Commit to take action today and see the difference it makes in your life. We’d love your feedback – remember 5-b Speak up!

Are You Tapping into Mind-Body Connection…in Awareness?

As I recall, when I first heard about Mind ? Body Connection, I didnt understand it. I certainly attempted to comprehend this concept, yet it was still unclear to me.

During my Journey of Personal Development, this topic resurfaced and now its becoming clearer. As I reflect on my life and think about the different events that have occurred thus far, there are many Mind ? Body Connections that have taken place in my life. However, at the time these events occurred, I wasnt aware of them. If you dont mind, I would like to share an experience that stands out for me, which took place a few years ago. Im taking a deep breath, so here goes

For the first time in my life, I was told I required major surgery. The healing process would take about 8 to 12 weeks and the long-term healing would be about 1 to 2 years. I wouldnt be able to drive or do much of anything, but focus on healing. Of course, I had a long list of questions for my doctor and wanted to know the pros & cons of having the surgery versus not having it.

As I stated earlier, this was the first time in my life I was faced with undergoing surgery & major surgery at that. As I continued asking questions, I noticed she really didnt mind answering them. She was very patient with me. I didnt know this at the time, but as my Mind started relaxing, my Body followed suit. I was about mid-way through my list of questions & her response went something like this From my experience, when patients go into surgery with a bright outlook they tend to heal faster than those who look at the surgery as a negative. Hummmm did you FEEL that? I just got goose bumps. As you probably have already guessed, I felt like I didnt need to ask any additional questions. Why? Because, in that moment I felt like everything would turn out okay! I couldnt explain the FEELING at the time, but I felt absolutely certain that everything was all good!

My mindset changed from being inquisitive to being focused on how great the surgery will be and how soon my body will heal. Therefore, I felt my recovery would be much less than the 8 to 12 weeks. So, do you see how my Mindset & Belief changed, which created a higher vibration of positive energy? This higher vibration of positive energy was transferred into my body on a cellular level, which allowed me to have a speedy and healthy recovery! Yes, I was experiencing a positive dose of Mind ? Body Connection! Overall, my surgery and recovery went extremely well & my doctor was amazed. I felt truly Blessed & Grateful to have such a remarkable experience.

Im sure youve heard this phrase used before ~ Energy is everything and everything is energy.

Mind ? Body Connection is truly a form of energy! And, its up to us to determine if we want to experience positive or negative energy in our lives. If you search for the positive in life, positive energy will find you!

Daily we have different experiences in our lives and my question to you is: Are you Aware or Unaware of your daily Mind ? Body Connections? For me, I use to be unaware, but now Im practicing to be more present in my life. I believe in choosing positive thoughts in order to attract more positive energy!

In closing, the Mind is very powerful! Being more aware of our thoughts allows us to choose positive or negative thoughts, which transfers those thoughts & feelings energetically at a cellular level to our bodies. Ultimately, having an empowering Mind ? Body Connection!

To Live and Grow Requires Challenge and Making a Life Changing Decision

Today there exists a belief of being the victim. It is very clear that we live in a ‘politically correct’ society where we are very subtly taught to blame others for our own mistakes, sue everyone who apparently wrongs us, and where we do not accept responsibility for self.

We live in a culture of being obsessed with security and ease, and all around us must provide this for us. We seem to want all the risk removed from our lives, and to be safe, secure, and at ease 24/7 but….. life is the leading cause of death! None of us are ever completely safe and secure, and ease is only ever a temporary state.

Even in our spiritual development, we need to be constantly challenged and look anew at life around us. Many of the fastest growing religious countries at this time are those that face the greatest persecution Read more »

Are You Ready to Stop Being Right and Start Being Happy?

Weve all been there. Angry at our husbands or boyfriends for not helping around the house; seething because hes watching TV while were staring down a sink of dirty dishes. Maybe dishes arent the problem in your house. Perhaps your trigger device is the pile of dirty socks, underwear and pants strewn on the floor. Or it could be the age-old divider of the sexes, the raised toilet seat. After all, isnt that a flagrant way of showing that he has no regard for your feelings and he doesnt appreciate you? Because thats what all these household annoyances really mean, dont they? Not exactly. And thats why so many couples find themselves decimating their relationships over mundane issues.

Auriela McCarthy, relationship expert and author of the new book, The Power of the Possible: A Book of Hope and Inspiration has eye-opening insights about human behavior. The book features stories of hope, inspiration and transcendenceof hitting bottom and transforming into a different person on the way back upshedding the past and the pain. People become invested in their past, using it as a club to beat themselves up with or to excuse their reprehensible behavior; or simply because they dont believe they can ever be emotionally free from the pain that their past has caused them, says McCarthy. Time doesnt heal all wounds, but love can.
